Burgmann College blends the best of collegiate values in a contemporary way
and is located in a splendid bush and parkland setting on campus. Considerable
resources are devoted to providing appropriate academic assistance, pastoral
care and leadership opportunities for residents.

The catered section consists of 2 blocks with 3 floors each. Each floor has
40 rooms. Each room comes with a single bed (linen is extra), a store room with
sink, a book shelf, study table and chairs. A hot water heating system is
activated automatically in cold weather. Each floor additionally has 3 blocks of
showers and toilets, a bath, plus a free washer and dryer.

In 2009 the standard weekly fee is $293. Fees are paid a semester in advance
except by prior arrangement. There is also an up front fee that covers bond,
membership of the residents association, and infrastructure fees. There are a
number of scholarships, bursaries and work schemes that include a significant

Catered residents get 21 hot meals per week, typically with 3 choices
(including one vegetarian option) for each meal. Special diets can also be
accommodated. Your fees additionally cover a number of formal dining events
through the year, including Commencement and Valate dinners, plus Principal's
dinners and faculty dinners with invited speakers.

The rent includes all rates except phone and internet charges.

All rooms have phones on the ANU system. ANU internal calls are free. All
phones have voicemail.

We have two Computer labs. These labs provide all the standard ANU lab
facilities, including printing and quota based free internet access. Every room
has a 100Mb/s Ethernet port with free access to ANU websites. External access
from rooms is charged per MB of downloads. We have a limited wireless network
that works in the same way as room connections. We provide in room technical
assistance to help you get the most out of our computing facilities.

The closest shop is at University House, a short 5 minute walk. The nearest
major shopping center is a 20 minute walk away in Civic. There is an ACTION bus
line immediately outside the college that can take you to Civic, Belconnen, or
Woden. Cycling is encouraged and we provide secure lockable storage.

We have seventeen residential tutors living in the College. Tutors are
selected by the College based on their high academic standards, pastoral care
skills, and leadership capabilities. Tutors are available for personalised
assistance in their academic areas. The Principal lives on site and is supported
by 3 other Residential staff members. Burgmann's residential staff have
completed higher degrees and are able to assist in a range of areas related to
student needs and participate in the lively academic lifestyle of the college. A
residential staff member is always available after hours to handle emergencies.

We have 1 music rooms with 24 hour access. We have 2 pianos, 3 tutorial
rooms, 2 common rooms, 2 TV rooms and a Chapel as a multi faith venue for
services, celebrations, reflection and functions . These facilities are shared
between all residents.

A washer and dryer, plus limited clothes line space, is available on each of
the 6 floors. There is no charge, but residents must provide their own laundry
powder.

Parking is available at standard ANU student rates, including a limited
number of secure reserved places in the Dickson parking precinct. Canberra's
network of bike paths and public transport is quite good, so we encourage
residents to save money and not bring a car.

Residents clean their own rooms. The common areas, including bathrooms and
toilets, are cleaned by a combination of paid residents and regular housekeeping
staff. Access to vacuum cleaners is provided to residents. Common areas are
inspected regularly, but rooms are only inspected once per year under normal
circumstances.

Smoking is prohibited in all University buildings . Designated smoking areas
are located outside.
