John XXIII College was established at the Australian National University in
1967. It is one of two independent Colleges on the campus. John XXIII College is
owned by the Dominican Order of Priests who have been involved in university
life since the early days of the order in the late 13th century.

John XXIII College has 317 well-appointed and spacious furnished rooms. Each
has a king-sized single bed and mattress, large cupboard, sink with hot and cold
water, large study desk, easy chair, desk lamp, book shelf, pin-board, waste
paper and recycling baskets.

The College offers a 40-week contract at $299 per week, which includes all
meals. There are discounts available to students who pay a semester or a year in
advance. 20 week contracts are avialable for students attending ANU for just 1
semester.

John XXIII College provides some of the best cuisine available on campus.
This includes a continental breakfast, and a hot, brasserie style lunch and
dinner. On Sundays there is a hot brunch running for 4 hours. The College caters
for many types of dietary requirements including vegetarian and Halal meals. A
take-away lunch and a late meal service are available for those unable to attend
during normal meal times.

Your rent includes heating, power, and water charges.

All rooms have direct dial telephones with computer voice mail service. The
telephone service can be paid for by placing money on the phone account at the
front office.

All rooms have a Direct Broadband Network Internet Connection point. In
addition, John XXIII College has a Computer Lab with 15 Dell PCs and 5 eMacs,
all connected to the ANU network, and a laser printer with paper supplied. These
are free of additional charge to residents of the College.

John XXIII College is located on campus within walking distance to all shops
and faculties. Buses to Civic, Belconnen and Woden leave from the front of the
College. In addition there is a safe, lockable bike storage area at the College.

Our Senior Residents are appointed by the College to assist with the general
well-being and academic success of its residents. Senior Residents provide
residents with personal assistance, counseling and general protection of their
welfare. In addition there are over 40 Academic Mentors at the College to assist
residents to reach their full academic potential. The members of the Residents’
Association work to create a diverse and interesting cultural, social and
sporting life for all residents.

John XXIII College has four Music Rehearsal Rooms which are available to
students 24 hours a day. There are many opportunities for students to perform at
College dinners and events in ensembles, choirs, and individual performances.

There are Laundry Rooms on each floor which are free of charge to residents.
Each room includes four washing machines, four dryers, irons and ironing boards.

Parking is available at the College. In addition the College has a limited
number of parking spaces available to residents at the Dickson Parking Station
next door. Students will need an
ANU parking
permit. Canberra's network of bike paths and public transport is quite good,
so we encourage residents to save money and not bring a car.

Residents’ rooms are serviced by our friendly Housekeeping staff once a week.
All bathrooms, toilets and common areas are cleaned on a daily basis. Rooms are
inspected each term, and there are bin rooms provided on each floor, for rubbish
and recycling. There is no extra cost for housekeeping.

Smoking is prohibited in all University buildings . John XXIII College is a
non-smoking college.
