BURGMANN COLLEGE PG VILLAGE
The self-catered apartments at Burgmann College are reserved for
Postgraduate and Honours students.
They are also particularly popular with students from the Medical School.
|

|
The new village at Burgmann College was completed in 2004 and features some
of the most modern and comfortable accommodation on campus. It accommodates 120
self-catered places for postgraduate and honours students in a village street
setting. It blends the best of collegiate values in a contemporary way and is
located in a splendid bush and parkland setting on campus. Considerable
resources are devoted to providing appropriate academic assistance, pastoral
care and leadership opportunities for residents.

The self-catered section consists of units with 2, 3 or 5 bedrooms that share
bathroom and kitchen facilities. Your room is completely private with a swipe
card access. Each room has a single bed (linen extra), study unit, cupboards,
timed heater, phone, and tv/internet ports. We have a number of single occupancy
studio units, including larger rooms for couples, however priority for these
rooms goes to current residents.

|

|
In 2009 the weekly fee ranges from $189 - $240 and depends on whether you
live in a studio, 2, 3, or 5 bedroom apartment. Weekly fees are direct debited
and you must stay 4 weeks in advance. There is also an up front fee that covers
bond, membership of the residents association, and infrastructure fees. For the
current fees, visit

Each unit has a common area with lounge chairs, table, 4 burner stove, oven,
microwave and full size fridge. Other basic appliances are also provided, but it
helps if you bring your favourite cooking pot! The residents in a unit are
expected to keep their common area, including kitchen, clean. Self-catered
residents are entitled to, and are encouraged to attend, Sunday dinner in
Burgmann's dining hall. Your fees also cover a number of formal dining events
through the year, including Commencement and Valate dinners, plus Principal's
dinners and faculty dinners with invited speakers.

All rooms have phones on the ANU system. ANU internal calls are free. Local

competitive rates (cheaper than a mobile). All phones have voicemail.

We have two ANU Info Commons labs for Burgmann residents only. These labs
provide all the standard ANU lab facilities, including printing and quota based
free internet access. Every room has a 100Mb/s ethernet port with free access to
ANU websites. External access from rooms is charged per MB of downloads. Visit

The closest shop is in University House, a short 5 minute walk. The nearest
major shopping centre is a 20 minute walk away in Civic. There is an ACTON bus
line immediately outside the college, that can take you to Civic, Belconnen, or
Woden. Cycling is encouraged and we provide secure lockable storage.

|
We have a senior post-graduate “tutor” resident living in each self-catered
block. They are the first point of call for any concerns. A tutor is
always on call after hours. They are trained in first aid, and are very familiar
with the facilities and services provided by the ANU and Burgmann College,
including counselling services. Additionally, Burgmann's Principal lives on site
and is supported by 3 other non-student residential staff (Dean's). A
residential staff member is always available after hours to handle emergencies.

|

|
We have 1 music rooms with 24 hour access. We have 2 pianos. We also have 3
tutorial rooms, 2 common rooms, 2 TV rooms and a Chapel as a multi faith venue

A communal self-catered laundry block is centrally located in the “village”.
The washers and dryers are free, but you must provide your own washing powder.
Communal clothes lines are also available.
|
|

|
Parking is available at standard ANU student rates, including a limited
number of secure reserved places in the Dickson parking precinct. Canberra's
network of bike paths and public transport is quite good, so we encourage
residents to save money and not bring a car.
|
|

|
Residents clean their own rooms and must contribute to the cleaning of their
unit. Residents are provided with access to vacuum cleaners, mops and buckets.
Common areas are inspected regularly, but rooms are only inspected once per year
under normal circumstances.
